Sarah Haddou is a French-Algerian multidisciplinary artist whose passion and focus is on performance art and paintings. Her practice also extends to other mediums such as installations and sculpture.
She studied philosophy at La Sorbonne University in Paris, and Fine Arts at Altos de Chavon, The school of design, affiliated to Parsons where she has been introduced to performance art through a workshop with the Guatemalan artist Regina Jose Galindo, and David Karmadavis. She graduated with honors and received a merit scholarship to complete her studies in Parsons | The new school (New York).
Haddou’s multi-disciplinary practice is informed by her multicultural experience, what it means to become part of another society and how those societies can accept or reject the others. She deconstructs the socio-cultural aspects that determine our relation to one another and what generate the mechanisms of défense which perpetuate the sense of division. Catalyzed by her immersion in several countries, her inspirations and queries on identity, borders, walls and notions of belonging, have become the genesis of her works.
Inspired by universal myth and religions, Haddou often confronts the sacred and the profane in her pieces. Eroticism / Taboo dichotomies thus reign in the artist's works.
Presently, Haddou is curating the art collection of the Abdullah Al Dabbagh Foundation, a future Museum in Saudi Arabia, planning to open in 2022.
She lives and works between Lisbon, Paris and Jeddah.
